EduCare (American School of Doha)
Educators at the American School of Doha
took the initiative of forming an organisation
called, EduCare, which had as its objectives to;
Embed environmental education and community
service learning into the curriculum, create a
greener, cleaner school facility and establish
and maintain sustainable partnerships with the
community focusing on environmental/community
service projects. An integral aspect to EduCare
was building sustainable partnerships with other
schools, NGOs, corporations, professionals and
service projects.
Al Haya Waste Management & Projects Co. WLL
With the aim of changing the usage of
conventional plastic shopping bags and trash
bags into
degradable bags within two years; Al Haya has
been promoting degradable bags among
manufacturers, traders and end users. In
addition the company has been providing
degradable
bags to Green Qatar, Qatar Agricultural
Department free of charge.
BEST PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AWARD
Foundation Program, WCMC-Q
Inspired by classroom discussions of Al Gore’s
documentary, ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ the
Foundation Program students decided to try to
raise awareness of environmental issues among
students, faculty and staff as well as start a
recycling project and energy saving programme on
Weill Cornell Medical College – Qatar campus.
The students took their message to local
schools: Khawla bent Al Azwar primary school,
Joan
ben Jassim Primary School, Al Jazeera Academy,
Al Resala Secondary School, and Al Bayan
High School.

Life
This multi-building student complex has been
designed to achieve US Green Building Council
Platinum LEED (Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design) status and will be the
first
student housing project in the world to achieve
this sustainability credential. Students will
live in
zero-waste, state of the art residence halls
that incorporate sustainability best practice.
They seek
a living environment where every day will
provide a new lesson for student residents on
how
green savvy technology can help global citizens
to live a responsible, sustainability-focused
life.

With the objective of making a positive impact
on the environment Sabban Property Investment
has constructed a carbon neutral development –
the first in the region.
ENVIRONMENTAL VISION IN THE ENERGY SECTOR

Qatargas Operating Company Limited
One of the biggest environmental challenges
facing Qatargas in constructing massive
expansion projects is the preservation of coral
colonies found along the pipeline corridors. The
coral protection programme developed
subsequently to face the challenge is considered
unique and the largest coral protection effort
conducted so far in the region providing
protection to more than 4,500 coral colonies in
an area that would have been affected by company
expansion projects.
The coral protection plan was implemented in
close cooperation with the Supreme Council for
the Environment & Natural Reserves (SCENR).
Simpatico WLL
‘Qatar’s Online Store’ Simpatico has several
green initiatives underway. The store is one the
way to becoming a carbon neutral business,
introduce and resell solar energy products to
the Qatari market, commence the sale of ‘plant a
tree’ and ‘carbon offsets’ online and trade in a
other varieties of green products..
